Infants
Infant Curriculum
Little Learners firmly believes that infants grow and develop best in a loving homelike
environment.  The infant room has 8 infants instead of 12 as the State of Illinois allows.
Every infant has a caregiver who is responsible for the physical, social and emotional
development of the infant.     The main caregiver is responsible for feeding, diapering,
and planning activities for the infant to encourage development.  She is also responsible
for communicating with parents through phone calls, daily sheets, emails, and
photographs.

An infant program must be individualized as they have a large variation in their needs
and abilities. Infants at 6 weeks of age are dependent on adults to determine their needs
and meet them. Infants at 14 months are capable of eating table foods, crawling or
walking to where they want to go and manipulating toys and other objects.  The program
is designed to give infants the nurturing they require while maintaining respect for the
infants abilities.

Parents provide information to teachers about an infants evening and morning routines
on a daily sheet when they arrive in the morning.  This allows teachers to plan an infant’s
daily routine, which she will also document on the daily sheet that parents will receive at
the end of the day.

The infant room at Little Learners is a shoe-free room.  Teachers wear slippers or shoes
that are only worn in the classroom. Parents may remove their shoes before entering the
room or place covers over their shoes before entering the room.

Parents will determine the amount and schedule of meals whether formula, breast milk,
or infant food. Parents should provide information to teachers about table foods that
have been introduced. New foods are always introduced at home before they are
provided for infants at Little Learners.
